Join artist and educator Miranda Wildman for a playful, grounding art journaling workshop designed for everyone. 

In this workshop, we’ll explore art journaling as a joyful, expressive practice while working in our own art journals provided by Miranda. Using a plethora of mixed media materials, we’ll build full compositions and experiment with shapes, textures, colors, and fun techniques Miranda uses in her own work.

You’ll personalize your art journal by playing with acrylic paints, acrylic markers, hand-painted collage papers, vintage ephemera and more, all within the welcoming and inspiring atmosphere that Miranda creates at the Red House Gallery & Studios in Black Mountain, NC.

Miranda designs her workshops for all levels of experience and all identities, generously sharing her creative knowledge and materials. She’ll also talk about how to continue with an art journaling process at home or on the go, including tips for the best materials to travel with.

Keeping an art journal is a beautiful way to express yourself, stay grounded, and make creativity part of everyday life.

Together, we’ll experiment with watercolor paints and beautiful mixed media papers, collaborating with light and shadow to make delicate, expressive works of art. These small pieces are perfect for framing or gifting, and you’ll leave with several finished artworks on high-quality paper.

Gather your friends and celebrate the holidays by creating joyful crafts from upcycled and recycled materials. We'll have a cozy afternoon of seasonal craft-making, turning forgotten items into beautiful treasures like:

✨ Whimsical Cardboard Gingerbread Houses!
✨ Colorful Folded Star Ornaments!

All materials will be provided, but pre-registration is required so we can have enough for every creator. A $5 cash donation is suggested to help cover supply costs.

Artist's Bios:
Kara Ashley-Gilmore and Miranda Wildman are artists and creative facilitators dedicated to helping people connect with their inner world through art. Kara, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and Board Certified Art Therapist, believes in using our innate creativity for wellness and healing. She is a seasoned professional who has developed programs that guide others through self-discovery and emotional processing.

Miranda, a mixed-media artist, draws inspiration from the natural world of Western North Carolina. She believes art-making and appreciation are for everyone, serving as a powerful tool to reconnect with each other and with nature. She challenges the idea that art is reserved for a select few, emphasizing that creative expression can break down barriers and foster a sense of community and belonging.

Together, Kara and Miranda bring a unique blend of clinical expertise and intuitive, community-focused artistry to their workshops, offering a non-judgmental and supportive space for creative exploration and personal growth.

@mirandawildman is a local Asheville artist on a mission to remind people that art is for everyone and hosts accessible art-making events around town.
We're lucky to have Miranda join us for an afternoon making watercolor postcards here at the shop.
Drop in from 2-6pm on Friday, October 10th, and Miranda will show you how to create your own unique postcard using watercolors and other materials. We'll even have a few gummies around to help you get inspired.
Making & creating are such important tools for connecting to the self and others, and this event is meant to inspire a quick reprieve. Hope you can join us.
